Woodland Community Land Trust

Our Mission

To acquire a land base that will allow for diversified housing options, sustainable income production opportunities, social and educational services, and for a cohesive community development effort.

Our History

Local residents came together to create The Woodland Community Land Trust in 1977 to acquire a land base sufficient for citizens to build a sustainable community. Trust lands create the place for residents to exercise their rights and responsibilities over the land, to their neighbors, and to the larger world of which they are a part. Residents of Woodland Community Land Trust support the effort to obtain decent and affodable housing, economic sustainability, and social, educational and cultural enrichment.
The first parcel of land Woodland acquired (17 acres) was donated by the Metzler family. Woodland began building homes in the late 1980's as they continued to acquire additional land.

Woodland has now grown to approximately 400 acres with 21 families living here, with additional land available for future housing.

The Woodland Community Land Trust works in partnership with the Woodland Community Development Corporate to promote the opportunity for affordable housing options.   Once families buy a home the land trust offers a life-time (99 year) lease on their one acre home site, which is transferred to leaseholder’s heirs if they commit to use the land in an environmentally and socially responsible way.
